On Saturday 24th March 2007, Five Oceans co-ordinated a magnificent wine tasting at ANGIE'S RESTAURANT, for lovers of fine cuisine.
The wines tasted were from Bloemendal Estate, in the Durbanville Valley, north of Cape Town, as well as Hermit on the Hill from Paarl.
Jackie Coetzee, the owner of Bloemendal, flew up from Cape Town as did Pieter de Waal who makes Hermit on the Hill. They respectively spoke with passion about the wines they make. Each superb course put out by chef Daireen Parkes, was accompanied by an uncannily paired wine.
The menu went as follows:-
Bloemendal Sparkling Brut NV with Souffle of Roquefort cheese with poached pears in red wine served on a bed of rocket with walnut vinaigrette
Bloemendal Sauvignon Blanc 2005 with Cerviche of salmon with course salt and dill served on a creamy dill sauce
Hermit on the Hill Syrah 2000 accompanied by Duck breast with crushed peppercorns and honey served with a cassis sauce with blueberries and a galette of potato with bacon and thyme
Bloemendal Merlot 2002 to go with Fillet of beef "Rossini" served on a dish of spinach topped with foie gras, mushrooms and spooned with a Madeira demi-glaze
Bloemendal Noble Late Harvest complemented by Burnt lemon cream with raspberries
A truly stunning evening with the finest of wines, served with culinary delights of superb flavour and quality!
